FAMILY EMERGENCY TRAVEL…. Does anyone know any tips to find the absolute CHEAPEST way to travel?

I’ve tried to find discount coupons (none work), I’ve compared Air, Rail and Bus. I’ve compared both round trips and one ways down & back. My funds are limited now, and hope to find any tip to find the absolute cheapest fares and means of transportation. I am in Syracuse, NY… my daughter in Virginia Beach, VA. It is a family emergency situation, and I need to get down there sometime this week. If certain days to travel are cheaper than others, or times of day, I would appreciate any tips to find how to locate the cheapest means to travel. Thank you in advance
It DOES matter how much it costs… due to needing money when I get there to help her, and I am not exactly wealthy! She lost EVERYTHING in a fire while up here for Christmas.

The cheapest I could find for you was Jetblue airlines out of Syracuse for $114 plus tax this week, unless you can wait til Sunday, then it’s $79 plus tax. (And your return flight would be $79 plus tax, assuming you’re returning next week or later.)

The catch is Jetblue can only get you as far as Richmond; can your daughter pick you up from there?

Greyhound is listing at about $120 at the moment.

Have you considered driving? One way single day car rentals are usually quite reasonable as long as you don’t need to purchase their insurance (as in, if your own insurance covers rental cars). In my experience, Thrifty usually has the lowest rates, but you’ll probably have to call them to price out a one-way drive, I don’t think they allow that option online.
