Well off w/ money, but people keep asking. Things to tell them to save money?
My husband and I have been fortunate enough to be responsible when it comes to money. We don’t have any kids. We save, invest, use CD’s, etc…
But… when people (mainly family) only talk to you because they need money, it gets old. We’ve helped many times, and have done (in our minds) all that we can do. The Bible says “Let not your charity make you weary.” There is only so much we can do, and we have to take care of OUR family, when we decide to start one.
I’m loaning a small amount to a family member for the LAST time. They seem to always be in the hole, about to lose everything. I want to attach some tips to help them save money. I know if my husband and I were in the same place, we’d be living in the dark eating pork and beans and playing a card game. So what would you tell someone?
A few of mine:
Turn DSL/computer off.
Cell phones off.
Cable off.
Clip coupons.
Thanks in advance
You can advise them to check out Consumer Credit Counceling. They need to check out a non for profit. Give them the phone number. They will help them set up a budget. Then tell your family that your husband has hired an accountant to handle all of the money and that you too are living within a budget ( Quite a bit different than theirs but they don’t need to know that) You could tell them that you have an adjustable rate mortgage and your house payment just went up or you could tell them that you have a balloon payment due this year. Just a few tips we have had to use to avoid just saying NO. It is not fun being treated like a bank and until you turn them down, they will just keep coming back.
